In 2016 the V.C.C.A. received an invitation from Grand Villa, an assisted living center here in DeLand. Seemingly out of the blue, they offered our Club the use of their theater to hold our monthly meetings. This happened at a very opportune time because we had out grown our previous meeting place. They have done quite a lot to make us feel at home and we truly do. They have furnished coffee & iced tea for members as well as having the room set up for us.
We have tried a few ways to repay them for their kindness with no avail. we sent them a check for their efforts and they sent it back saying they cannot accept that kind of donation. Finally they asked us if we could have some Corvettes show up so the residents could check them out. And show up we did, in a BIG WAY. Records were shattered here today as at least 40 Members and 29 Corvettes along with a sweet Camaro and a very nice Chevrolet Corvair, both belonging to V.C.C.A. Members.
The most important photo shown here is me standing next to my ’96 Coupe. Not so much me or even the car. The lovely lady standing next to me is a resident of Grand Villa and the mother of my cars previous owner. Barry Davis was a Founding Member of the V.C.C.A. in February, 2010 and an active member and officer in the Club. Barry fell ill in early 2014 and I purchased the Vette from him in June of that year. Barry passed away several months later. It was really heart warming to see his mother touching the fender and windshield as she “said goodbye to Barry” one more time, then she told me how much Barry loved that car and the fun they had. She then asked me if we were going to do this next year and I assured her that we will.
On a lighter note, the Grand Villa had a Good Humor truck show up and as you might expect…the ice cream was free and donated by Grand Villa. Our members and the residents enjoyed that part and I heard several people tell what their favorite flavors were. Including me and I had them both, a Toasted Almond and an Orange Creamsicle. This type of event is what it’s all about to me.
