It was with a sad heart we announced that long time Charter Member Chuck Powers passed away February 16, 2022. He was instrumental in the establishment of VCCA and at one time or another he held every single position in the club.
Chuck’s Celebration of Life on March 20, 2022.was a great remembrance to a very amazing man. We missed him at OB’s but we were remembering him fondly with some silly tales.
– During a drive out, Chuck ran out of gas twice in the same day.
– Garage crawls were his specialty, he was always an excellent supervisor regardless of who’s Vette we were working on.
– One morning after Saturday breakfast, Chuck left his mark on a post at the Red Roof Heritage Hotel, Orange City. Buzz Gunn and we returned with a fixed post, buried it and Chuck signed the new post.
– During a Car Show at the Cascade Heights Senior Living in Longwood, it started to rain while we were eating. All the guys scurried to button up their Vettes except Chuck. He finished eating first and calmly went to close his convertible top. Unfortunately, by then the interior was flooded. With some additional supplies from the home, we all used buckets and towels to dry the seats and put down papers so Chris could to sit on them. He claimed it was the cleanest the car has been in awhile.
– On another occasion we were supposed to participate in a homecoming and those are important to us because that’s how we make money to donate to worthy causes. Anyway, at the last minute Chuck was unavailable but knowing the importance he gave Jim Moss his keys. The parade was a success and during a quick bite it started to rain. The funny part is NO ONE knew how to raise the top on Chuck’s C4. Poor Jim got soaking wet and once again it was the cleanest Chuck’s car has ever been.
He is missed but in his honor we donated $1K to the Neighborhood Center in DeLand.
