Dinner at Tuesdays Social meeting for this month was very, very good. Once again it was Giovanni’s Italian Restaurant in Lake Mary. As expected, it was all you could ask for in a meal and the service was excellent. On our way out I heard “when are we coming back here?”. A true dining pleasure. A gorgeous Central Florida evening with 24 Club members in attendance.
It is not very often that the Club has back-to-back drive outs but we did just that. After that great meal last night it was a fairly early start for what was to be lunch at a “highly recommended” venue just south of Tampa, Florida.
This was, by far, the longest distance covered on a drive out for a meal. One odometer registered 316 miles. Under the careful guidance of Buzz Gunn, we pulled out at 9:30 a.m. with 6 Corvettes and 11 members and meandered along some back roads, side roads, high roads, low roads, hi-ways and a few bi-ways and one freeway. We reached our destination FOUR hours later and hungry as all-get-out. Few complaints however, because after all, we were in Corvettes.
Once parked and inside, we began the wait for our meals. This place, “Buffalo City Bar & Grill”, originally from Buffalo, N.Y., is know for Beef on Weck, thin sliced roast beef on a Kaiser roll. Several of us had that and it was quite good. Others tried their Ruben, Buffalo Wings and quesadillas. All of which were very good. Only one drawback…the ONE HOUR wait for our food to arrive. Yup, the food was good but stomachs were growling all around the table.
The drive home was shorter and more direct and after 10 hours I pulled into my drive and realized that not one Corvette was bitten by the Road Gremlins. Quite a trip.
