The Volusia County Corvette Association was founded in 2010 with the intent to support local charities. Now entering our 10th year, nothing has changed. Here is a breakdown of our latest donations.
The first photo, taken on March 7th, shows a $1,000.00 check being presented to Pete (sorry I didn’t get his last name) from the DeLand Y.M.C.A. also pictured are; Club President Larry Shephard, Secretary Christine Powers and Charity Director Chuck Powers. Also in attendance were; Buzz & Vicky Gunn and Cindy Shepherd.
The next photo, taken on March 8th, was at the Neighborhood Center of West Volusia. A $1,000.00 donation is being presented to Susan Clark, Executive Director and Waylan Niece, Housing Director. Presenting the check are Club Secretary Christine Powers and Charity Director Chuck Powers.
These two organizations have been our main charities since day one. They both have a huge impact by helping those in our community whenever called upon.
On march 18th another check was presented to House Mother Anne Grinstead and Jackie Mosness of Visitation House. Visitation House offers a helping hand to young women who have found themselves in a tough situation. They are helped with life skills as well as parenting skills so they can continue to thrive and support themselves in the community. This is our newest charity and a most deserving one.
This piece is titled “A Time to Share and a Time to Play”, and play we did. Tom Gibbs “Annual Display” was March 9th and made this a fairly busy weekend for the V.C.C.A..
About a dozen Corvettes made the trek to Palm Coast for this event which is open to anything as long as it is Chevrolet powered. Also attending this event were the “Road Gremlins”. Shortly after explaining them to a new member, someone came up and said “Chuck, your Vette is leaking”. Sure enough, I was snake bitten again to the tune of a new radiator and tank.
It is a great feeling when we are able to reach out and help those in need in our community. Those “Road Gremlins”…not so great!!
