After years of me thinking about it and more time planning it, the V.C.C.A. finally made it’s long overdue “Sunrise-Sunset” drive out.
Tuesday, July 16th started off like any other day…oops, wrong story.
Tuesday, July 16th started with an eight (8) Corvette caravan from Deland to Daytona Beach Shores and the H.I. Express where we were greeted by Alice who absolutely loved our Vettes. She wasn’t going to tell which one she liked best but after prodding by a member, she picked my C4 because of the paint job, sorry guys. lol.
Dinner was set for “Down the Hatch” which is “down the road” from our hotel. After a short drive to the wrong restaurant We arrived in time for a pretty good dinner followed by an evening of T.V. and bed time.
Wednesday morning found us standing on the beach awaiting a very cool sunrise over the Atlantic. While just standing around, Donna C. decided we should do our interpretation of the Village Peoples “Y.M.C.A”. So we formed an (almost) perfect “V.C.C.A.”. Looking back now, it was worth getting up at 5:30 a.m.
The drive to Tampa was pretty uneventful with no Road Gremlins along the way. We were pleasantly surprised as we arrive at Sailport Waterfront Resorts to find that Nick M. had not only saved us some spots…he blocked off parking underneath the first floor to keep our Vettes out of the weather. All 16 members agreed that this resort was nothing short of amazing. The staff, the service, the rooms and our view of Tampa Bay was just plain great. A member of their staff is also very good friends with a few of our former members (small world). One member swore that everything in his room was brand new
We headed off to diner at “Whisky Joe’s” around the corner for dinner. We were joined by two (2) more members plus Chris’ daughter and son-in0law. I tried a drink and a soup that I had not had before and both were very good as was our meals.
After dinner we walked out to see the sunset but thanks to an approaching storm, all we got was some really nice color coming through the clouds.
Thursday was to begin with a short drive to the Tampa Automobile Museum but only 4 members decided to go. Due to my wife’s injury I decided to go straight home.
Everything on this trip went off without a hitch. We will defiantly do it again.
