On Saturday, April 7th, 12 Corvettes and 23 members met at Lowe’s for a 1/2 mile drive to Chris Cruz Artistry here in DeLand. After the 2 minute trek we arrived and parked our Vettes in a manner (somewhat) conducive to a favorable formation to get a good photo of our cars.
We were met by Chris and his wife, Cherry, Everyone enjoyed bro wsing around the shop. There were all sorts of vehicles and projects in the works. A real nice C-5 with an under hood mural which he just finished, a 30’s coupe in for a repaint as well as several motorcycle fenders, tanks and fairings in stages of custom painting.
There were snacks as well as cold drinks but most members were studying his books full of customer photos, including Elesix Estepe’s silver C-5 hood showing a real cool. pin-striped eagle.
We moved on to the (awesome) door prizes. I won a T-shirt, which Chris autographed. Dave Quinn won a gift certificate for 15% off any work. The BIG prize was a hand painted Plaque which was won by Holly Baer. (see photo).
As you may know, I am leaving my ’96 coupe the “Purple People Eater” for a couple weeks for some custom paint work. I was going to keep it a secret from the Club but that will be difficult since Cherry said she will be posting the progress on Facebook. Chris was outside looking at several members’ Vettes and I am sure that he got more than one new customer from our visit.
After our visit we took a scenic route (thanks Buzz) to Bunnell for a great lunch at the “Bantam Chef”. Many of our members had not eaten there before but I’m sure they all enjoyed the food. Absolutely fantastic (and big) fish sandwich.
Being in Florida, it started raining as we finished our meals so we we all decided to split. The rain really came down as we made our way home.
