As I said before, one of my favorite expressions is…”Another beautiful day in Central Florida” and once again, today was no exception. Sunny & mild even if some considered it a little chilly.
Our journey of 163 miles (my door-to-door) adventure started with eleven (11) Corvettes and one wannabe, Larry & Sandy in their very nice (Corvette powered) Pontiac Trans Am. We took a pretty straight route to Howey-in-the-Hills but avoided freeways as usual. We all arrived together at the Mission Inn & Resort.
Once inside and seated we went to the buffet. We have been there before and enjoyed it. This time, however was a little different. The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t real good, Decent sliced prime rib and some kind of chicken, flat noodles (my favorite) but NO POTATOES of any kind….what’s up with that? They didn’t replenish a few items but they did have ice cream with a few toppings.
Because their dessert menu was sparse. we decided to move on to the Yalaha Bakery. This place will add five (5) pounds when you walk in the door. I think everyone bought something, some more than others. Chris & I managed to escape with only a few thousand calories in our bag. It was suggested by a couple of members that we try the Bakery for a lunch drive-out. They had eaten there before and said the food was very good.
Our trip didn’t end there. As luck would have it, right next door was the Yalaha Bootlegging Co. We have been to the Bakery many times but only one or two members knew about this wonderful place. Free samples were pretty good but I only had 2 or 3, or was it 5 or 6, I don’t remember. Once again, almost everyone bought something.
Our return trip was very pleasant, thanks once again to Buzz Gunn & Tom Chess’ vast knowledge of Florida’s back roads . We stopped for a short time atop Sugarloaf Mt. which is the highest point in this part of the state. Very beautiful view but it got a little windy and chilly up there so we didn’t stay long.
It is quite normal for something to go wrong with someone’s Corvette during a drive-out and today was no exception. Tom Chess had a front turn signal bulb burn out but he made it home O.K.
Great time with great people once again and looking forward to our next adventure.
